According to the Environmental Protection Agency, chemical levels on the home are rapidly rising with the use of chemical cleaners. If you do not have carpet, chances are you use far more chemicals than necessary to keep your floor clean. Fortunately, you can reduce the level of chemicals in your home by using chemical-free methods to clean your hardwood floor.

Here are five all-natural, chemical-free methods for cleaning flooring:

Method 1: Dish Soap

Chemical-free dish soap is a great option for cleaning hardwood floors. All you need to do is fill a large bucket with hot water. Add 1/4 cup of chemical-free dish liquid, mix, and start mopping. Just be sure to wring the mop out well, as too much water can cause the flooring to warp over time.

Method 2: Lemons

Lemons naturally have both antiseptic and antibacterial properties. They have some of the strongest acids found in food, which makes them extremely effective at cleaning. All you have to do is add 1/2 cup of pure lemon juice to a bucket filled with hot water, and start mopping. Not only will your floors be clean and germ-free, they will also have a lemon-fresh scent.

Method 3: Distilled White Vinegar

Vinegar is another natural cleanser that is quite powerful. Like lemons, vinegar contains natural acids that are great for cleaning. Simply mix 1/4-cup of distilled white vinegar into your mop water and begin mopping. If the smell of vinegar bothers you, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the mop water. Once the floor dries, you will be left with clean floor that smells pleasant.

Method 4: Tea

Believe it or not, standard black tea works wonders for hardwood floors. Steep 10 tea bags in 1/2 gallon of hot water for 10 minutes, and pour into your mop bucket. Mop the floor as usual to remove residue and debris. Once dry, the floor may appear a bit darker and much shinier, as tea also conditions and shines hardwood floors.

Method 5: Baking Soda

If you have tough stains or scuff marks, use baking soda to remove them. Simply sprinkle a wet sponge with baking soda and scrub the area. When done, rinse the floor with water or any of the methods above.

As you can see, there is no need to use chemical cleaners for your hardwood flooring. These five cleaning solutions work perfectly for any hardwood flooring. They can also be used on many other flooring materials, such as tile and linoleum. If your floor needs professionally cleaned, contact a reputable business in your area like Chem-Dry of Fort Myers.
